INFORMATION ON PACKAGING AND PACKAGING WASTE – FOR PRODUCT USERS

1. Meaning of markings used on packaging

Product packaging may contain markings indicating the type of material from which the packaging is made and the proper way to dispose of it. The purpose of these markings is to help consumers correctly sort waste and to support recycling.

2. Information on the proper handling of packaging waste

To facilitate specific processing, all packaging waste should be collected separately according to its fractions:

  • PACKAGING WASTE MADE OF PLASTICS
  • PACKAGING WASTE MADE OF METALS (ALUMINIUM/STEEL)
  • PACKAGING WASTE MADE OF PAPER AND CARDBOARD
  • PACKAGING WASTE MADE OF GLASS
  • MULTI-MATERIAL PACKAGING WASTE (e.g., cartons for liquid food)

Packaging should be empty and, if possible, crushed to reduce its volume. Packaging waste should be disposed of separately by fraction (in accordance with the local regulations on maintaining cleanliness and order in the municipality) at the nearest collection point established by the municipality (containers for selective collection) or at PSZOK points (selective municipal waste collection points). Information on the location of PSZOK points and their opening hours is available on the municipality’s website.

3. Information on available systems for return, collection, and recovery, including recycling of packaging waste

Packaging waste can be returned:

  • at retail units with a sales area over 2,000 m², which are legally obliged to selectively collect packaging waste from products sold in that unit, according to the types of packaging from which the waste originates,
  • at organized selective collection points in the municipality (publicly accessible containers) or at PSZOK points (selective municipal waste collection points). Information on the location of PSZOK points and their opening hours must be provided by the municipality on its website.

Legal basis:
