The N9K-C9336PQ is a high-density, 2-rack-unit (2RU) switch engineered for the Cisco Cloud Scale ASIC architecture. It serves primarily as a spine switch in Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) leaf-spine fabrics or as a high-performance aggregation node in standalone NX-OS environments. The hardware features 36 fixed 40 Gigabit Ethernet QSFP+ ports, providing a non-blocking switching fabric of 2.88 Tbps and a throughput of 2.3 Bpps. The system architecture supports natively integrated VXLAN bridging and routing, enabling large-scale Layer 2 domains across Layer 3 boundaries. It features deep buffer spaces and a shared 40MB buffer pool to mitigate congestion in high-traffic data center environments. For reliability, the chassis supports N+1 redundancy via three hot-swappable fan trays and dual N+N redundant, hot-swappable power supplies. Airflow is strictly determined by the installed modular components, supporting either Port-Side Intake (Blue) or Port-Side Exhaust (Red) configurations.
